Thanksgiving Feast Brings Leopoldau Community Together

Leopoldau, Vienna – September 27, 2026. — The parish garden of Leopoldau came alive on Sunday, September 27, as a large crowd gathered for the annual Thanksgiving Feast, filling the entire garden with music, dancing, friendship and a strong sense of community.

The celebration brought together parishioners, visitors, Filipino community groups, friends of the Parish of Leopoldau and guests from different parts of Vienna. Among those who joined the festivities were members and friends of the European Network of Filipino Diaspora (ENFiD-Austria), Babaylan Austria, Walkers, VIC Club Filipino, UNCAV, PACES, MFC Handmaids, RFNA, Filipina Women’s Network guests from California, and other FilCom organizations, who actively participated in the celebration and added a colorful international dimension to the parish gathering.

Before the festivities began in the parish garden, a short Thanksgiving Prayer was held in front of the parish church. The prayer offered an opportunity for everyone to pause and give thanks for the blessings of the past year, for family and friends, and for the strong community that continues to bring people together.

Following the prayer, a festive parade made its way through the area, featuring a number of vehicles beautifully decorated with Thanksgiving-themed designs and decorations. Adding to the festive atmosphere, the Musikverein Leopoldau accompanied the parade with its lively and beautiful brass-band music.

When the parade reached the parish garden, the celebration continued with music, food, fellowship and dancing. The sound of the brass band quickly drew people onto the dance floor, with Filipinos, Austrians and friends of different backgrounds happily dancing together.

The presence of the Filipino community was particularly noticeable, reflecting the close friendship and growing connections between the Filipino community and the Parish of Leopoldau. Groups such as European Network of Filipino Diaspora (ENFiD-Austria), Babaylan Austria, Walkers, VIC Club Filipino, UNCAV, PACES, MFC Handmaids, RFNA, Filipina Women’s Network guests from California, and other FilCom organizations, not only attended as guests but also actively joined in the celebration, demonstrating the spirit of friendship, solidarity and togetherness.

The Thanksgiving Feast once again showed that a parish celebration can become more than simply a gathering—it can be a meeting place for people of different cultures and backgrounds. Through prayer, music, food, dancing and fellowship, the people of Leopoldau and their guests celebrated not only Thanksgiving, but also the gift of community.

As the music of the Musikverein Leopoldau filled the garden and people continued to dance and celebrate, the message of the day was clear: there is much to be thankful for when people come together in friendship and community.
